The Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission requires basic recruit students to successfully complete a training program of 530 hours. Recruits are required to attend all scheduled training sessions, except for absences approved by the Academy Director. This course is comprised of ten (10) courses of instruction, which includes three (3) high liability areas (Defensive Tactics, Medical First Responder to Emergencies and Criminal Justice Weapons). Recruits must score at least an 80% on all written exams, as well as perform the required level of skills proficiency in the high liability areas. Defensive Tactics and Medical First Responder to Emergencies require 100% accuracy on skills taught during the training program. During Defensive Tactics the recruit will be exposed to chemical agents. Criminal Justice Weapons require 80% accuracy on skills taught during the training program.
